부활을 믿는 성도의 자세

사형 집행을 앞둔 사형수가 교수대 앞에 떨면서 서 있었다. “마지막으로 할 말이 없는가?” 라고 묻는 말에 그는 고개를 저었다. 이제 형목이 마지막 기도를 하려고 그에게 다가서자 그가 형목에게 속삭였다. “목사님, 기도 좀 오래 해 주세요” 단 몇 초라도 생명을 연장시키고 싶었던 것이다.

삶의 욕망, 그것은 동서고금을 통하여 모든 인생이 가지는 가장 기본적이고 우선이 되는 욕구이다. 과학이 제 아무리 발달하고 문명이 고도화 되어도 서산에 지는 해를 멈추지 못하듯이, 희어지는 백발을 검게 하지 못하는 것이 인생의 슬픈 현실이다. 생명은 오직 창조자 하나님과 그 아들 예수그리스도만이 좌우하실 수 있으므로 우리 인생은 그 앞에 겸손히 무릎 꿇을 수밖에 없는 것이다.

죽음 너머의 새 하늘과 새 땅, 그리고 죽었다가 다시 사는 성도의 부활은 우리 모두에게 큰 위로요 소망이다. 그런데 바울 사도는 죽었다가 다시 사는 단순한 육체의 부활과는 또 다른 의미의 차원 높은 부활을 제시하고 있다.
“그의 죽으심은 죄에 대하여 단번에 죽으심이요 그의 살으심은 하나님께 대하여 살으심이니 이와 같이 너희도 너희 자신을 죄에 대하여는 죽은 자요 그리스도 예수 안에서 하나님을 대하여는 산 자로 여길찌어다”(롬 6:10, 11).

이것은 죄로부터 해방되고 의에 사는 부활을 의미한다. 이 부활은 성도가 누릴 단순한 축복이 아니다. 부활의 소망을 가진 자라고 하면서도 여전히 죄 속에 파묻혀 살고 있다면 참으로 부끄러운 일이다. 부활은 관념이 아니라 삶이고 실제이어야 하기 때문이다. 그러므로 죄와 사망의 법에서 해방된 성도는 더 이상 죄의 종이 되지 말아야 한다.
“사망아 너의 이기는 것이 어디 있느냐 사망아 너의 쏘는 것이 어디 있느냐 사망의 쏘는 것은 죄요 죄의 권능은 율법이라 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 이김을 주시는 하나님께 감사하노니”라고 한 바울의 고백이 우리의 고백이 되게 하자.

만물이 소생하는 이 부활의 계절에 사망 권세를 이기시고 부활의 첫 열매가 되신 예수 그리스도의 음성에 귀 기울이자.

“나는 부활이요 생명이니 나를 믿는 자는 죽어도 살겠고 무릇 살아서 나를 믿는 자는 영원히 죽지 아니하리니 이것을 네가 믿느냐.” 우리 모두 가슴으로는 내세에 다시 사는 부활을 믿는 복된 자들이 되고, 삶으로는 죄의 권세로부터 해방되어 참 자유를 누릴 뿐 아니라 하나님의 의를 나타내는 승리자가 되자.


The Life of One Who Believes in the Resurrection

A death row inmate facing execution stood on the gallows trembling in fear. When asked: "Do you have any last words?", he simply bowed his head in silence. But then just as the prison chaplain walked towards the prisoner to say as last prayer for him, he whispered to him, "Say a long prayer for me, Pastor." His wish was to extend his life for even a few more seconds.

This desire to live is not only a universal desire across all ages and nations, but the most primary instinct of all living things. Just as it is impossible to stop the setting sun even with the advancement of science and the development of civilization, it is impossible to halt the greying over of one's hair; this is a sad fact of life. Because our lives are under the complete control of the Creator God and His Son Jesus Christ, we have no choice but to humbly come and kneel before our God and Lord.

The new heaven and new earth that comes after death, and the resurrection of believers that promises life after death is a great comfort and hope to all believers. However, Apostle Paul speaks of a resurrection that is on a different level from merely a physical resurrection of the body.

"The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus"(Rom. 6:10-11).

This passage speaks of the resurrection of being freed from sin and living in righteousness. This is not a blessing that any believer simply enjoys. It is a shameful thing indeed when those who have the hope of resurrection still live in bondage to sin. Resurrection is not just a concept but a reality that is to be lived. Thus, the believer who has found freedom from sin and death should no longer be a slave to sin.

May Apostle Paul's confession also be ours: "Where, O death, is your victory Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

During this Easter season when new life sprouts, may we hearken our ears toward the voice of Jesus Christ who became the first fruit of the resurrection.

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" In our hearts, let us believe in the resurrection of our bodies after death, and in our lives, let us find and enjoy true freedom from the power of death so that we can become victorious people who reveal the righteousness of God.
