브루클린의 한 초라한 아파트에서 어른 3명과 어린이 4명의 가정예배로 시작한 우리 퀸즈장로교회는 영원하신 하나님 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도의 측량할 수 없는 은혜 속에서 어언 37년이라는 세월이 흘러 오늘에 이르렀다. 지나간 세월, 꽃 피는 봄이 지나면 무성한 여름이 오고, 현란한 단풍으로 물드는 추수의 가을이 오는가 하면 어느덧 낙엽이 지고 흰 눈이 소복이 내리는 겨울이 왔다. 한 겨울 눈보라 매섭게 몰아치는 중에서도 퀸장의 목장에 모여든 영혼들은 추위를 이겨내고 건강하고 씩씩하게 성장하여 왔다. From the Shepherd’s Desk The Korean American Presbyterian Church of Queens, which started out as with three adults and four children worshipping in a humble Brooklyn apartment, has come a long way these past 37 years, by the amazing grace of the eternal God and the Lord Jesus Christ. How time has passed. After flowers bloomed in the spring, hot and humid summer came; summer slipped into autumn with its dazzling watercolored leaves, and before we knew it, the leaves fell and snow-filled winter arrived. Even in the midst of severe snowstorms, the souls gathered together in the pasture of KAPCQ, overcame the cold and grew healthier and stronger. When I gaze upon the sheep that frolic in the pasture, I cannot help but to give thanks to the eternal Shepherd Jesus Christ who personally led His flocks of sheep. As we said our final goodbyes to last year and brought in the New Year, I received many cards from our church members- from our youngest and most naive elementary students to our young adults and adults; the heartfelt words written in them made tears well up in my eyes. As I read over the countless words of thanks and love, comfort and encouragement, I give all thanks and glory to the loving Lord who moved my heart and comforted me, a lacking servant who was unable to accomplish much. I sincerely pray that God’s blessing will be upon the countless people who, over the past 37 years, sent me words of love and encouragement, beautiful flowers and fresh fruit whenever there was an occasion, the delicious food lovingly prepared, and all the precious gifts. I send you my heart of thanksgiving and love. We are one family in the house of God, called KAPCQ. We share in the fellowship of grace sitting around one table of God’s Word; we put our hearts together and pray to God; we are one family of faith that brings glory to God through thanksgiving and praise. You and I are not separate but one family seated together on the same boat, overriding the waves of the world and rowing towards heaven. As we celebrate our church’s 37th anniversary, let us all hold hands together, and love each other deeply as we become one body of love that pleases God. I pray and pray again that the grace and peace and the abounding blessings of God the Father will be upon my beloved KAPCQ family members. “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord made his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”(Numbers 6:24-26). 목장에서 뛰노는 양 떼들을 바라보면 친히 양 떼들을 인도해 주신 영원한 목자장이신 예수님께 무한한 감사를 드리지 않을 수 없다. 연말을 보내고 새해를 맞으면서 천진난만한 유초등부 어린이들과 청년들, 그리고 수많은 교우들로부터 눈시울을 적시게 하는 감동적인 카드들을 받았다. 한없는 감사와 사랑, 위로와 격려를 하는 감격의 카드를 받아 읽으면서 부족하기만 하여 한 것이 별로 없는 종을 주님께서 교우들을 통해 위로해 주시고 마음을 감동케 하시니 사랑하는 주님께 감사와 영광을 돌린다. 지난 37년의 세월 동안 사랑과 격려의 글을 보내주신 수많은 분들, 그리고 때마다 아름다운 꽃과 싱싱한 과일과 정성으로 만든 음식과 귀한 선물을 주신 모든 분들께 감사와 사랑의 마음을 전하며, 하나님의 축복이 함께 하기를 진심으로 기원한다. 우리는 퀸장이라는 하나님의 집의 한 식구들이다. 한 말씀의 상에서 함께 은혜를 나누고, 마음 모아 하나님께 기도하고, 감사와 찬양으로 영광돌리는 믿음의 가족들이다. 너와 내가 따로 있는 것이 아니라 한 배를 타고 험한 세상의 파도를 헤치며 천성을 향해 노저어 가는 한 가족들이다. 교회설립 37주년을 맞으며, 우리 모두 손에 손을 잡고 서로 뜨겁게 사랑하며 하나가 되어 하나님이 기뻐하시는 사랑의 공동체를 이루어가자. 사랑하는 퀸장의 모든 교우들에게 하나님 아버지의 은혜와 평강이, 그리고 한없는 축복이 넘치기를 거듭 기원한다. “여호와는 네게 복을 주시고 너를 지키시기를 원하며 여호와는 그 얼굴로 네게 비취사 은혜 베푸시기를 원하며 여호와는 그 얼굴을 네게로 향하여 드사 평강주시기를 원하노라” (민 6:24-26).
