십자가 고난 길 끝에 부활의 영광이 있다 기독교를 상징하는 십자가는 인간 고난의 절정을 의미한다. 가장 흉악한 죄인에게 사형을 집행하는 사형 틀이 곧 십자가이다. 예수 그리스도께서는 하나님의 아들로서 온 인류의 흉악한 죄 값을 지불하시기 위하여 십자가에 달려 죽으셨다. 창조주 되신 하나님의 아들이 피조자인 죄인들에게 심문을 받으셨다. 유대 지도자들은 무리를 충동하여 죄수 바라바를 놓아 주고 예수를 십자가에 못 박으라고 소리를 질렀다. 빌라도 총독은 물을 가져다가 무리 앞에서 손을 씻은 후 예수님을 채찍질하고 십자가에 못 박히게 넘겨주었다. 총독의 군병들이 예수님을 관정 안으로 데리고 들어가서 온 군대를 모으고 그의 옷을 벗기고 홍포를 입혔다. 그 머리에 가시 면류관을 씌우고 갈대를 그 오른손에 들리고 그 앞에서 무릎을 끓고 “유대인의 왕이여 평안할지어다”라고 희롱하였다. 그에게 침을 뱉었다. 갈대를 빼앗아 군병들이 돌아가며 그의 머리를 쳤다. 희롱을 다한 후에는 홍포를 벗기고 다시 그의 옷을 입혀 십자에 못 박으려고 갈보리 언덕으로 끌고 나갔다. 죄 없으신 예수님, 사랑으로 우리를 찾아오신 하나님의 외아들 예수님은 마침내 인류의 죄 짐을 홀로 담당하시려고 그 고난의 십자가 위에 못 박혀 대속의 피를 흘리신 것이다. 예수님께서는 “아버지여 저희를 사하여 주옵소서 자기의 하는 것을 알지 못함이니다”라고 하셨다. 정오부터 3시간 동안 해가 빛을 잃고 온 땅에 어두움이 임하였다. 아들의 고통을 보시는 하나님 아버지의 눈앞이 캄캄하여 졌던 것이다. 예수님께서는 “엘리 엘리 라마 사박다니”, “나의 하나님, 나의 하나님, 어찌하여 나를 버리셨나이까” 라고 절규하셨다. 다시 큰소리로 “아버지여 내 영혼을 아버지 손에 부탁하나이다” 하시고 운명하셨다. 성소 휘장이 위로부터 아래까지 찢어져 둘이 되었다. 이제까지 범죄한 인류에게 등을 돌리셨던 하나님께서 죄 값으로 인하여 고난의 길을 가다 영원히 멸망당할 인생들을 향하여 두 팔을 벌리시고 “다 내게로 오라”고 환영하셨던 것이다. 예수! 나의 주, 나의 사랑, 나의 생명, 나의 왕이신 예수! 그분은 십자가에 달려 죽으신 후 장사 지낸 지 사흘 만에 말씀하시던 대로 부활하셨다. 죽음을 부활 생명으로 이기신 예수님은 인류의 구주가 되시고, 부활의 첫 열매가 되셨다. 그 예수님은 “아무든지 나를 따라오려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 좇을 것이니라”고 말씀하셨다. 그리스도인의 삶은 십자가 언덕을 바라보면서 고난의 가시밭길을 헤치며 나아가는 삶이다. 그 거칠고 험한 갈보리 언덕 너머에 부활의 영광이 가다리고 있기 때문이다. “믿음의 주요 또 온전케 하시는 이인 예수를 바라보자 저는 그 앞에 있는 즐거움을 위하여 십자가를 참으사 부끄러움을 개의치 아니하시더니 하나님 보좌 우편에 앉으셨느니라”(히 12:2)The Glory of the Resurrection Awaits at the End of the Suffering of the Cross The cross that symbolizes Christianity signifies the peak of man's suffering. The cross was the method of execution for the most heinous of criminals. Jesus Christ, as the Son of God, died on the cross to atone for the wicked sins of all mankind. The Son of the Creator God was cross-examined by created beings who were also sinners. The Jewish leaders incited the mobs to have Barabbas released and cry out for Jesus to be crucified on the cross. The Governor Pilate took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, and had Jesus flogged and handed over to be crucified. The governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium, gathered the company of soldiers, stripped Him of his clothes, and put a scarlet robe on Him. They placed a crown of thorns on His head, put a staff in his right hand, and mocked Him by kneeling before Him and saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" They spit on Him. They took thestaff from Him and the soldiers took turns striking Him on the head with it. After they had finished mocking Him, they disrobed Him, put His own clothes on Him and led Him away to Calvary to be crucified. Jesus who was without sin, Jesus, the one and only Son of God who has come to us in love, shed His blood of atonement upon the cross of suffering in order to bear the sins of all mankind upon His own shoulders. Jesus said, "Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do." Forthree hours starting from noon, the sun lost its brightness and darkness came over all the land. Darkness flashed before the Father God's eyes that were watching his beloved Son suffering. Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?", "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Then, once again, He cried out, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit", and breathed his last. The curtain of the temple tore from top to bottom into two. God, who had turned His back unto sinful mankind until this point, was now with open arms saying, "Come to me"to those walking on the road of suffering, headed towards their eternal death. Jesus! Jesus who is My Love, My Life, My King! He resurrected after three days from dying onthe cross, as He had said He would. Jesus who was victorious over death with the resurrection life, became the firstfruit of the resurrection. This Jesus said, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."The life of a Christian is one of gazing at the hill of the cross and walking on a bed of thorns. But over the harsh and difficult hill of Calvary awaits the glory of the resurrection. "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author andperfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God"(Heb. 12:2).
